Chest Insigna with Tiger Design Excavated from Tomb of Anseong Ui-In Park
Date/ Joseon Dynasty, Late 16th Century
As the chest insigna for a military officer in the Joseon period, it was attached to the ceremonial costume of a woman who was the wife of the government officer in the mid Joseon period. This Hopyohyungbae is the first actual object excavated apart from those in literature and portraits. A variety of patterns including a tiger and a leopard are dynamically described.
